The Best of Impact Records is a 25-track collection that features a selection of rare singles released by the Detroit-based indie label. The collection is appropriately balanced between garage-rock and soul singles, with the most familiar group being the Detroit Wheels. Other artists on the collection are the Human Beings, Mickey Denton, the Boss Five, the Shades of Blue, the Classmen, the Sheppards, the Inner Circle, Sincerely Yours, the Lollipops, the Sixpense and Rod Riguez. Some of these songs are absolute dynamite, while others are recommended only because of their sheer rarity, but the disc should be of interest to hardcore '60s rock collectors.
~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, AMG
A great collection of the rare sides of Harry Balk's Impact Records label was given the CD treatment by Collectables Records.
Conceived and compiled by Jerry Schollenberger, this package boasts 25 super sides from 1966-1968.
Acts include some of Detroit's finest. From Sixto D. Rodriguez, The Human Beings and The Boss Five, to The Shades of Blue and The Wheels. Included in the set is the big Shades of Blue hit, "Oh, How Happy," presented in true Stereo.
The Wheels' uptempo cover of "Dancing In The Street" is excellent, produced by Harry Balk.
From great early Detroit punk rock to girl groups, this digital offering is very well rounded and well presented.
Complete with informative liner notes, this set is highly recommended.
If you love [Del Shannon's] Big Top, Amy, Mala, and Twirl sides, you will most definitely enjoy The Best Of Impact Records.

* I'LL SLIP AWAY (2:12) [Gomba, BMI--Riguez]
Rod Riguez could make a name for himself
with this bluesy, mid-tempo rock ballad.
Keep it in sight.

Special Merit Picks
With almost any kind of break, Sussex records could make it two in a row and become contenders for the "breaking new artists" honors. Rodriguez, who at times sounds a bit like Jose Feliciano, could follow Bill Withers in this respect. Best cut here is "To Whom It May Concern," which definitely deserves airplay. "Cause" and "Climb Up On My Music" are also recommended for airplay.

'COMING FROM REALITY'
Cash Box Review
January 1, 1972:
This is the second LP from a man and a voice who is a pleasantly original amalgam of Jose Feliciano, Donovan and Cat Stevens. There's something for everyone here. Two MOR efforts in "I Think Of You" and "To Whom It May Concern"; a "Season Of The Witch"-ish "Heikki's Suburbia Bus Tour" and a long FM narrative in "A Most Disgusting Song." Remaining numbers touch all the beautiful boundaries in between. Programmers of every classification should find something their listeners can get into here are the singer/songwriter with receive wide attention through these efforts.
