'From The Roots Came The Rapper'
Cash Box Review 18 March 1972:
All new, never before released Tex toughies which should fare well, especially since 'I Gotcha' has restored his gift to Top 100 prominence. No one can talk a rap like Tex, and if you don't believe that gospel truth, listen to his 11-minute plus reading of 'I'll Never Fall In Love Again' and especially his nine minute 'Oh Me Oh My' which ranks as one of his best performances of all time (and he's been up and around since the early sixties). AM play will focus on Eugene McDaniels' 'Lovin' Man', whose lyrics really capture what Joe's brand of sensual soul is all about. Mercy!

'From the Roots Came The Rapper' singles:

'I'll Never Fall In Love Again' / 'The Only Way I Know How To Love You' (Dial single 45-4098, Billboard review 26 September 1970) and 'I'll Never Fall In Love Again' Parts I (3:47) and II (2:45) (Atlantic single 45-2874, Billboard and Cash Box reviews 27 May 1972).

'I'll Never Fall In Love Again' originally from the Broadway musical 'Promises, Promises' (opened at NYC's Shubert theatre 1 December 1968).

'From The Roots Came The Rapper' notes:

Composer Eugene McDaniels' version of 'Lovin' Man' (NOT the song recorded by Joe Tex on 'From The Roots Came The Rapper') was cut 6 October 1970 at Regent Sound Studios in New York City, © 22 October 1970 and released on 'The Headless Heroes Of The Apocalypse' (Atlantic album SD 8281, ST-A-712097 / 712098, Billboard review 8 May 1971). The Joe Tex song was actually titled LOVIN' composed by Gene McDaniels © Lonport Music Corp. 1 June 1971.
